BT Sport host Darrell Currie has refuted the suggestion that Rangers are contributing £65,000-a-week to Jermain Defoe’s wages while he is on loan at the club.
Reports over the weekend emerged that suggest the Ibrox side were paying half of his £130,000 salary, however, Currie has gone on record claiming that is not the case.
There’s talk that Rangers are paying Defoe 65k per week. I’m told that’s not the case. Bournemouth are paying the lions share of the wages. Rangers have negotiated a superb deal…

It always seemed far fetched that Rangers would be willing, or able, to pay that kind of money to one player. That Rangers have negotiated favourable terms is a testament to the recruitment team at Ibrox.
It also takes a bit of pressure off of Defoe. Having less of a financial commitment on his shoulders will give him the time to get up to speed within Steven Gerrard’s first-team.
Fans are eager to see him in competitive action over the next few weeks with many feeling he can providing the attacking contribution that helps Rangers win major honours this season.
