Yesterday evening, Rangers announced that finance director Brian Stockbridge had left the club by mutual consent.

The statement released by the club reads.

‘Rangers announce that by mutual consent Brian Stockbridge is leaving the Company and has resigned as a director of the Company and its subsidiaries with immediate effect.’

The statement goes on to say that no ex gratia benefit or bonus has been offered or paid to Stockbridge in connection with his contract termination, and they wish to thank him for his efforts during our difficult periods.

The club has now embarked on a search for a new finance director.

The Daily Record quote a club source as saying.

‘Brian left the club at 6pm by mutual consent. The move is all part of Graham Wallace’s restructuring of the club.’

Stockbridge’s position has been said to have become untenable following the anger of the fans at his handling of our finances, and despite returning a £200,000 bonus he received for Rangers winning the third division, the writing was on the wall for many.

Many also speculate that this is a clear and concise message from Wallace over who is in charge at the club, and whilst the decision was no doubt taken in its own right in the best interests of Rangers, it’s also a very loud message to fans given their thoughts about off pitch life at the club.
