The January transfer window offers Steven Gerrard an opportunity to upgrade his playing squad, and that’s something that he needs to take advantage of. Despite our decent start to the season, our lack of depth and, indeed, quality has been a worry for much of the season.

However, his latest comments are somewhat concerning, as they suggest that a potential departure could be on the cards.

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ tie with Celtic on Saturday, Gerrard has discussed Alfredo Morelos, and he appears to be convinced that clubs will come in for the Columbian forward.

Whilst, of course, Gerrard is just stating that he’s expecting interest, rather than sale, this is still a worry. Clearly, the manager is at least somewhat concerned about the long-term future of his star forward, and with good reason.

He’s been one of our best players this term, and simply put, we cannot afford to lose him.

Significantly, the boss hasn’t stated that he’s expecting a departure or that the club will even consider bids for Morelos, but still, this is a real worry.
