Rangers manager Steven Gerrard admitted he is running out of superlatives to describe the performances of Allan McGregor this season after another phenomenal performance in a Gers jersey last night.

McGregor was one of the first arrivals at Ibrox in the wake of Gerrard’s appointment and he hasn’t let anyone down yet, producing a string of saves all season long that have kept us competitive in multiple competitions.

For club and country he is playing some of the best football of his entire career.

And Gerrard can’t get enough.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun after last night’s draw against Villarreal, the Ibrox boss said:

I’m running out of things to say about him, he has been top class since day one, every single day in training and games. Just wow. Those saves tonight? Wow.

Allan was world-class. He has been incredible from day one and he’s come up with two more world-class saves.

The goalkeeper saved twice in one-on-one situations with Villarreal attacker Karl Toko Ekambi, a player who scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 last season before a multi-million pound move to Spain.

In the UEFA Europa League alone, McGregor has made vital saves against FK Shkupi, NK Osijek, Maribor, Ufa and in both Villarreal matches. Without him, we simply wouldn’t be knocking on the door of qualification for the last 32 of the competition.

We’ll likely have to call upon him again when we look for the win we need away to Rapid Vienna on the final matchday in December.
