Rangers have made some fine signings happen in this January window and the squad is looking in good shape.

Indeed, we’ve also made moves to ensure we’re improved for the new season, too, and we mustn’t forget that we have also got some very good players to come back from loan spells.

Greg Doherty is one, then, with him doing well at Shrewsbury and many of us want to see him excel for our club.

And, indeed, he intends on doing just that when he returns in the summer, underlining his intention to compete with boyhood hero Steven Davis for a starting spot in his latest comments.

Speaking to PA Sport – via BT Sport – the on-loan man had this to say:

“He achieved so much the last time he was at the club with the amount of trophies he lifted.

“I don’t think he was really appreciated for how good he was at the time so it’s great the club have been able to get him back in. It’s a real coup and hopefully he can help us kick on now.

“But I’ve got to be thinking about coming back and looking to take his place.”

Clearly, Doherty wants to play for us next season and that is obviously a good sign.

He’s having a productive loan spell down in League One at the moment and I expect him to come back and push for a spot.

Whether he can get one, though, remains to be seen.
