Rangers – at the moment – face St Mirren on Boxing Day after their request to postpone was rejected and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to avoid suffering a black eye ahead of a rearranged winter break.

Jim Goodwin’s side are probably where you’d expect them to be sitting in ninth place in the Scottish Premiership with just three wins and nine draws from their 18 league games this season, scoring an average of one goal a game, regardless of who they may or may not have missing due to Covid-19, they will still be an organised outfit – they have caused us more than enough problems over the last couple of seasons.

They haven’t won in nine league games, a run that started with our 2-1 win away from home against them, however, games against either side of the Old Firm will not determine their final league position.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has shown that he isn’t afraid to go on the offensive and I’d expect him to learn from the lessons of the 1-0 win over Dundee United, we didn’t have enough pace in out attack until the second half when he made changes, we also don’t have enough of a goal threat if Alfredo Morelos doesn’t have his shooting boots on.

There is no need to rotate as the first XI will get a break on the other side and will ask them for one last big effort, those that aren’t heading off to a mid-season international tournament that is – predicting what might happen tomorrow in Scottish football is hard enough though, never mind in a few weeks.
