Rangers central defender Kyle McClelland is being watched by Southampton, it has been stated.

The young player is currently impressing on loan at Scottish League 1 table toppers Falkirk who are in pole position for a return to the second tier.

The Scottish Sun reported on the interest of the south coast club and how they have been keeping a keen eye on the Northern Ireland youth international:

“Southampton are tracking Rangers starlet Kyle McClelland.”

“The 19-year-old centre-back is on loan at League One Falkirk and has been a stand-out for the Bairns this season.”

“The big stopper is due to return to Ibrox in the summer but the English Premier League club plan to monitor his progress for the rest of the campaign.”

Falkirk co-manager Lee Miller spoke to ‘Not The Old Firm’ on the development of McClelland, paying tribute to his ability and application in his time on loan thus far:

“Big Kyle has done really well for us. In the games he’s played he’s shown a good attitude and in training and about the place.”

“It’s part of his development being in and around the first-team and a team that is going for a league. It’s not easy to come into as good as squad as we’ve got but he’s done really well.”

“He’s been focused and determined and probably feels that he could’ve got more minutes. I can understand that and can understand where he’s coming from but I’d say he’s got a good future.

“A lot to learn but he’s got a good future – as long as it doesn’t go to his head.”
