Graeme Souness might not be right all the time and has, frequently, been given pelters for some of his opinions.

His criticism of Paul Pogba became a meme but, you’d have a difficult argument finding someone who thinks that the French midfielder’s second spell at Manchester United was a success over the last 3-4 years.

Yesterday though, he didn’t have to wait quite as long to be proven right after Roy Keane and Gary Neville laughed during the pre-match build up to Liverpool’s 7-0 win in the Premier League’s biggest fixture after Souness made a bold claim about his old side and their chances of winning.

After the demolition, it was clear that Souness was in his element and this Sky Sports footage shows just how rattled he managed to get Neville.

If a team wins 7-0, they have played well, regardless of how poor the opposition might have been and when asked by Souness if he genuinely thought that Man Utd were the better team in the first half and he replied that he did, there was only one way that the former Gers gaffer could respond.

”Not a chance!”

Neville had nowhere to go and, despite his “congratulations,” he was clearly still in the first phase of the grief reaction – denial.

To dig himself even deeper by saying that he didn’t think Liverpool had actually played that well was just bizarre. They’d just scored seven goals against the team sitting third in the table and who, before the game, were going for a quadruple – allegedly.

At least we managed to score against them…
