We’re just a couple of hours away from Rangers’ first match of the domestic season, with all eyes on Pittodrie for the biggest fixture in the country this weekend.
Steven Gerrard faces off against Derek McInnes for the first time, just days after both teams produced energy sapping performances in UEFA Europa League qualifying.
While the Dons will feel the effects of Thursday night more, their match against Burnley went to extra-time, they will provide stern competition in the league opener.
One player in the spotlight, if he plays, will be teenage midfielder Lewis Ferguson. Son of former Rangers player Derek, and nephew of Ibrox legend Barry, he scored a cracker of a goal against the English Premier League side on Thursday that had everyone talking, not least Gers supporters.
This is special. This is unbelievable!

It’s not often you see Rangers fans praise an Aberdeen man on social media, but many did, excited by his potential considering his Rangers links.

I said it within his first few games, Lewis Ferguson has 10 times the potential of Greg Docherty, Rangers really should’ve just waited half a year and grabbed this guy, shame on Accies for letting his contract run. https://t.co/aQaUkzRzN7

He is definitely a player to watch out for today if he starts, both in terms of the future and in terms of the damage he could do to Steven Gerrard’s team today.
Still just 18 years of age, his big move to Aberdeen from Hamilton has put him into sharp media focus and it’ll be interesting to see how he performs over the next 12 months.
