It will come as no surprise to many, but discredited SNP MSP James Dornan has backtracked on his previous pledge to apologise to Rangers.

“If false, then of course…I’ll delete and apologise but one of the videos seems very clear”

That is what Dornan stated soon after he had fallen over several others within the commentariat of Scottish authority, such was their desire to condemn the videos that were being circulated of the Rangers staff party in the Thornton Suite at Ibrox.

Supposedly, sectarian chants were being added to a ‘Sweet Caroline’ singalong.

The little problem was that it was a fake video that originated on TikTok from a user named ‘WullieWan*er’.

Joined by SNP colleague Humza Yousaf, Dornan was very quick to encourage a pile on, aimed at Rangers multicultural first team squad, many of whom themselves are Catholic or from minority backgrounds.

When the target is Rangers, facts are disposable and inconvenient such is the haste to stick the boot in.

We had tabloid front pages and headline stories on BBC’s Reporting Scotland – all for what and for who?

Clarity

As reported by STV News, it has now been confirmed that:

“Specialists from Police Scotland’s Cyber Crime Unit had reviewed footage taken on a mobile device provided to them by a member of the group who recorded the players at the time, and confirmed that this footage was the original and had not been edited in any way, with no sectarian language heard.”

Dornan has now responded in part ignorance, part defiance but with his ‘reputation further enhanced’.

Liar

He said, “I contacted the police about this, which I’m fully entitled to do, I’ve got constituents asking me questions.”

“They got back to me with a non-response. I then spoke to them on the phone and they told me that they would send me the response which is now public knowledge, after some persuasion, because their intention had been not to give that out.”

Then the nationalist MSP doubled-down in a way unbecoming of a public office servant:

“As far as the apology goes, I’d thought about that and I thought, ‘I’ve done nothing wrong here’.”

“What I’ve done is I’ve tried to find out if people have behaved inappropriately at the behest of my constituents.”

“I’ve got nothing to apologise for, it wasn’t me that was fighting with the police and it wasn’t me who was wrecking the streets of Glasgow.”

Previous

This is the same James Dornan who had to issue a grovelling apology to Lothian buses for his false ‘anti-Catholic’ claims.

It is just more of the same double standards and hypocrisy from elected SNP politicians toward Rangers and the club’s fans.

Know them by their deeds.
