Sky Sports pundit slates Rangers star

|

Sky Sports pundit and Rangers icon Graeme Souness has had some choice words for goalkeeper Allan McGregor after his sending off on Sunday, as reported by The Daily Record.

McGregor needlessly kicked out at Hibernian opponent Marc McNulty during our 1-0 Scottish Premiership win, ruling himself out of upcoming matches against Celtic and Kilmarnock.

It’s just the latest in a series of discipline incidents in the Rangers team this season, with the team receiving 12 red cards in total.

Former Ibrox manager Souness doesn’t believe McGregor’s actions are acceptable, telling The Daily Record:

What you need is controlled aggression. You can’t play at the highest level without having a certain amount of aggravation in your system, but it’s about controlling that.

I know it’s rich coming from me, but you can’t step across the line as the game has changed dramatically in the last decade.

That [kick-out] is ill discipline and that’s not acceptable.

How old is Allan McGregor? 36, 37? He should have worked that out by now. Like the centre-forward they have, who’s reaching the point of no return with the things he gets sent off for.

Steven Gerrard clearly needs to sort out this issue ahead of the new campaign.

If we go into the 2019/20 season with the same disciplinary problems in the team then it’s simply going to cost us trophies again.

McGregor’s weekend actions ultimately may not have cost us much, but imagine the league was still alive ahead of the upcoming Old Firm derby and because of his kick out he missed it?

The manager needs to get a grip of the situation or it could end up defining his reign at Ibrox.
