Former Spurs man Darren Bent has registered an interest in signing for Rangers, but he’s someone the club should definitely avoid.

Still a free agent despite training with Burton Albion all summer and being offered a pay-as-you-play deal, Bent appears to be on the hunt for a new club to settle at for the season.

Appearing on talkSPORT last week, Bent was asked if he’d be interested in moving to Ibrox and said: “100 per cent! You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers. To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely!”

Bent was once one of the hottest strikers in English football, signing for Aston Villa in 2011 for a reported fee of £24m. He made 277 English Premier League appearances throughout his career, scoring 106 goals at the top level.

Now 34 years of age though, it’s a struggle to think of what he could offer Rangers.

His recent spell at Derby County in the English Championship was middling at best and he managed to score just two league goals last season on loan at Burton Albion.

Maybe once upon a time the club would show a desperation to move for a big name like his in the twilight of his career, but we’re operating differently in recruitment these days and it’s to our benefit.

With Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty leading the attack, we are well served with different kinds of strikers and unless he was willing to move to Ibrox on the cheap, Bent is not someone we want to see arrive in Glasgow.
