Former Rangers transfer target Scott McTominay is being lined up for a temporary January exit from Manchester United, as reported by The Sun.

The Gers had previously shown interest in the promising midfielder last December, as reported by The Mirror, after his initial breakthrough into Jose Mourinho’s first-team.

Having been refused the chance to head out on loan in the summer, it now seems that United are willing to let him gain experience away from the pressures of Old Trafford.

Is he a viable option for Steven Gerrard?

His 29 appearances for United to date would suggest so and while he might be struggling in the team this season, he’s show bursts of serious quality since his debut.

It’s likely a quality in midfield that would improve the Rangers first-team and if not, at least the squad as a whole. Depth will be needed as the season wears on.
