Former Rangers winger Barrie McKay is set to imminently sign for English Championship side Swansea City, with Wales Online reporting he has already completed a medical ahead of a £500,000 move.

The once-hyped Ibrox prospect left the club to join Nottingham Forest for a similar fee last summer, much to the ire of some supporters who felt he was worth much more.

He had a middling to fair season in the English second-tier, scoring five goals and creating six assists, again a similar output to what he had previously achieved in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old still has a bright future ahead of him, and could find his feet at a Swansea side who will be looking to challenge for immediate promotion to the Premier League, so should Rangers have made a move to re-sign him this summer?

Some Rangers fans have discussed the issue on Twitter, having this to say…

Lack of effort was definitely a big criticism of the player’s game when he was at Ibrox and he didn’t leave in the most harmonious of circumstances, so it’s no surprise that some would not bring him back to Glasgow.

With Glenn Middleton coming through, Jamie Murphy always providing a threat and Daniel Candeias there to add a crossing threat, Rangers are already well served in the wide areas.

Still, at £500,000, he could have been a solid option to provide depth in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

It’ll be interesting to see how his season pans out at Swansea, many Rangers fans will be watchin on with interest.
