Paul Gascoigne’s nomination for the Scottish Football Hall of Fame has been withdrawn after reports that board members at the SFA would boycott the upcoming induction event.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that some board members of the SFA felt they couldn’t endorse the player’s entrance into the hall of fame, despite having no direct control over his inclusion.
A later statement from the Hall of Fame claimed the withdrawal was due to concerns over his mental health, but the whole sordid affair is pretty see-through.
Gascoigne joined Rangers in 1995 and made over 100 appearances for the club in three years, helping the club to the famous nine-in-a-row triumph.
He won four trophies with Walter Smith’s side and scoring dozens of goals, thrilling supporters with world class performances.
Rangers fans have been left fuming by the whole saga and took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all yesterday…
Shocking decision on Gazza. Unfortunately a bitter minority will always ruin it for the rest of us.

Shocking statement….#MentalHealthDay2018 Scottish football yet again shows how incompetent they are. Gazza one of the best players to grace our game and these clowns bow to bigoted pressure and use Paul’s mental health as a reason to hide behind #Disgraceful https://t.co/9qylO8UIvR

Anyone who saw Gazza play in person know he was one of the greatest players ever to grace Scottish Football. The snow flakes can’t take away the talent the man had. This statement should be the nail in the @ScottishFA coffin and sponsors like @vauxhall should walk away

Only in Scotland can you nominate someone for place in the Hall of Fame, get there hopes up, withdraw the nomination then cite his health for withdrawing it. Fucking disgusting.

#WorldMentalHealthDay2018 yesterday and they treat this guy like this. Because of past mistakes and because he’s English. If the world knew half of what’s in that hall of fame they’d mock Scottish football more than they already do!

@ScottishFA it’s ok not to be ok… unless your Gazza. You lot are a disgrace. Utter shambles. pic.twitter.com/yZaMk9hhqf

Paul Gascoigne is arguably one of the best footballers to ever play in the Scottish league and literally nothing anyone feels about his life outside of football will change that ever. Fuck the SFA

Terrible call (in a long list of terrible calls) from the @ScottishFA to withdraw Paul Gascoigne’s Scottish Football Hall of Fame nomination. This organisation is a mess from top to bottom. Always has been, always will be. #gazza #rangers #sfa #fuckthesfa

Will our corrupt governing body give an apology to Paul Gascoigne for their clear discrimination. Forever the embarrassment of scottish football from the bottom to the top.
