Florian Kamberi has signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a season long loan from St Gallen.

The Albanian international spent last season on loan at Pittodrie but now he finds himself plying his trade in England’s League One this season.

It was only a year and a half ago that Kamberi was a January loan arrival at Ibrox from Hibs and although he wasn’t brilliant, there was some discussion as to whether or not he had done enough to earn himself a new deal.

The Swiss born striker featured for Rangers in both legs of the memorable Europa League win over Braga in February 2020, but was never quite able to make the desired impact.

His time at Ibrox proved to be just a fleeting one and now he is playing in the English third tier, whilst at Ibrox the club moves on to greater heights.

It is another sign of the evolution of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and the smart management of the squad, along with Ross Wilson, that sees the club pushing for better and continually striving to reach the bar.

That has been evidenced with last season’s title triumph and now the challenge is renewed.

It is mainly two-fold. Go retain the league title and make the step up into the Champions League group stages.

If that was to be achieved, what a success it would be.

Certainly that is the aim and the job starts for real tomorrow with the visit of Livingston.
