Reports from Spain have claimed that Sevilla have been monitoring Alfredo Morelos with the aim of bringing the Colombian to Andalusia this Summer.

With El Bufalo heading into the final 12 months of his Ibrox contract, a precarious situation lies ahead until such a time that certainty follows on his short term future. Ideally, Rangers will not want Morelos to run his contract down – to be able to sign a pre-contract at the turn of the year. The priority will be to secure a contract extension or otherwise a transfer deal may need to be struck.

The problem with this reported interest from Sevilla is the low-ball amount that the La Liga club are said to be bidding, initially at least, at around £6.6million (€8mil), as reported by Fichajes:

“That is why the Sevillistas have set their sights on Alfredo Morelos, who could come to the club for a very cheap amount.”

“The Colombian finished the season with problems in his thigh, but he will recover in the next few days, and the fact is that the 25-year-old forward is a very good market opportunity that Sevilla does not want to miss.”

Replacement

Despite the current contract situation, Rangers will almost certainly be holding out for more money to be prepared to strike a deal.

It was said by the same source that the Ibrox front man would be a potential replacement for Youssef En-Nesyri, in the event that the Moroccan departs the Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in this transfer window.

Such a move would of course bring Morelos to the venue of the club’s recent Europa League Final disappointment in which the striker’s qualities would have been most welcome. However, it wasn’t to be in more ways than one and now we await further news on the next step to be taken by Rangers greatest ever European goalscorer.
