A derisory offer from Serie A side Cagliari for Alfredo Morelos was instantly dismissed by Rangers.

That is the verdict from A Bola, the Portuguese newspaper who are continuing to monitor the situation with Porto tracking the player, ahead of an expected significant bid for his services.

With the recent conclusion of Copa America, the Colombian international will soon be on his way back to Glasgow, to be assessed by the club – both in body and mind as speculation increases over his future.

The Portuguese outlet have reported that Porto are holding out on Rangers lowering their 15 million asking price, with the Primeira Liga giants confident that there is no queue waiting to snap up The Buffalo.

The most recent coverage stated:

“Alfredo Morelos is the forward that FC Porto intends to fill (Moussa) Marega’s departure, but this is a plan that, A BOLA learned, will require a game of patience, given the intransigence of Glasgow Rangers in their demand of 15 million euros.”

“That was the amount that Lille offered the Scottish champions, a year ago, for the Colombian international. At that point however, the deal ended up not going forward and Morelos even served his fourth season in Glasgow, contributing 17 goals and 44 games.”

“The market, however, has changed a lot, due to the pandemic and the financial difficulties of the clubs, and at the end of the season the only bid that arrived for Morelos was from Cagliari for around 8 million euros.”

“The Dragons, in contact with the 25-year-old striker’s agent, Michael Gorman, are aware of the lack of any formal offer for the striker, so far.”

Resolution

It is clear that this protracted situation will not be solved anytime soon.

The lack of a firm message from the Morelos camp, indicating a desire to remain in Glasgow, speaks volumes.

Yes, Rangers do need to bring in transfer fees this Summer, but that requirement comes from a position of relative strength and no assets will be sold on the cheap – that is a non-negotiable, in the hope that an amicable resolution can be found, for all parties going forward into the new season, as soon as possible.
