It is official, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is no longer the manager of Rangers but with the confirmation, a surprising line was included in the statement.

Around 0930 this morning, word started to filter out that the decision had been made. It wasn’t long after that is was for real.

Just six months since Seville and the Europa League Final, Gio and Rangers have now parted ways, that is quite something regardless of how the situation has came about but the truth is that the domestic performance and extent of the drop off against other teams in the Premiership made the call inevitable.

It is the right decision which now starts the race for who the new boss will be.

However, given we are now nine days on from St Mirren, well into the international break and a further three days on from the Sky Sports excluive that went out on the anniversary on Friday, there are questions about the timing and the statement from Ibrox included this peculiar line:

“The search for the new manager is now underway”

Surely at this stage the proceedings are already underway? That remains to be seen as the rumour mill and thirst for info will go into overdrive, during this World Cup break. With the next game not until 15th December, there is some time for a new man to come in and prepare the squad for the next steps which will be a run of important games leading up to the massive Old Firm encounter on 2nd January.

The writing had been on the wall and now it is known as Gio van Bronckhorst and Rangers part ways.
