Matt Crooks looks set to leave Rangers following a failed spell at Ibrox.

Former boss Mark Warburton signed Crooks last summer, in a double deal involving Josh Windass, but the former Accrington midfielder has failed to make an impact for the Light Blues and ended last season on loan at Scunthorpe.

League One side Scunthorpe are hopeful of completing a permanent transfer and are ‘in discussions with Rangers over a permanent deal’, according to the BBC.

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander has confirmed an interest but also told BBC Radio Humberside there’s a lot of interest in Crooks, 23, from elsewhere.

‘He has got other clubs interested in him but we’re in the race. I think there might be a better deal from another club but it comes down to a lot more than money sometimes.’

Adding: ‘I’m always hopeful. I know there’s a will from all parties, but these deals are business deals and we’ll see how it goes over the next few days.’

During a loan at Glanford Park from January onwards last season Crooks scored three goals in 12 appearances for Scunthorpe.
