Scottish Cup semi-final ticket rush begins for Rangers fans

Tickets are available from today for those Rangers supporters who meet the threshold to secure their place at the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic on April 30.

As usual, demand outstrips supply several times over with a 50/50 allocation for both clubs but that does not equate to the full capacity at Hampden. Unlike the League Cup final under the jurisdiction of the SPFL, for the Scottish Cup, all member clubs of the senior leagues receive a small number of tickets. This is what has been referred to in the communication from Rangers when it was stated that a lesser allocation was received compared to the recent Viaplay Cup decider.

A statement from Ibrox today included:

‘Supporters in ‘Group One’ (season ticket holders on CCCS who are MyGers members) with 1,278 or more MyGers points, as of 9.00am on 27 March, have been emailed and given an opportunity to buy a ticket. The sales window for this group will open from 12.00pm Tuesday 28 March until 9.00am Monday 3 April.’

Demand

Within the last half an hour, there was a 20 minute wait to get on to the ticket portal to secure a brief. It happens every time on release day that several thousands will be trying to get logged on to make payment instead of waiting a day or two when there will be less traffic on the website.

Rangers much maligned system is due to be replaced for next season but at the same time, it will be creaking (for now) with likely many thousands attempting to access it at the same time. Many fans don’t want to risk a seat far back in the West Stand given the significant distance from the pitch, hence the early rush whilst plenty others are content to settle for the heart of the Rangers end, where the noise and colour in support of the team has its focal point.
