Saturday’s Significant Rangers Announcement Is A Massive Boost As We Head To The End Of The Season

|

Earlier on Saturday, Rangers confirmed that we had now secured the permanent signing of former England international Jermaine Defoe, with the 37-year-old agreeing a pre-contract move from parent club Bournemouth.

The hugely experienced striker made the switch to Ibrox back in January 2019, and he went on to feature in 12 games for Rangers, with eight further showings from the substitutes bench, returning eight goals and impressing plenty.

Having stayed for the 2019/20 campaign, he’s gone on to feature 13 more times for former playing colleague and now manager Steven Gerrard, and with a further 15 showings from the bench, he’s chipped in with an additional 16 goals as we continue to pressure Celtic at the top of the Premiership and push further into our Europa League journey this season.

With no transfer fee changing hands, clearly we think he’s more than worth the signing fee and the agreed upon wage, and he’s penned a 12 month deal starting from the summer.

Speaking to Official Site Gerrard explained.

“Itโ€™s fantastic news. Itโ€™s something we have been working on over the weeks and it is great to finally get that done and dusted. I think itโ€™s great news for all the supporters and everyone connected to the club for many different reasons. He is an incredible professional with the way he goes about his work on and off the pitch โ€“ he is a credit to himself and his family. And also on the pitch, which is the main thing. He is still contributing heavily โ€“ he is a major part of this group, this team and this squad and hopefully, together we can go and share some success as I think he deserves that.”

Given his impact both on and off the pitch, Rangers fans on social media were suitably delighted with the announcement, as can be seen from the above Twitter link.

With 16 under his belt already, anyone putting bets on breaking the 30 before the end of the year?
