Ryan Jack returned to action on the pitch in Scotland colours during the week, as well as airing an admission on his unlikely injury issue picked up against Liverpool.

Some questioned his call-up for the practice match in Turkey which the hosts won 2-1 given that he had just returned to the Rangers squad following another lay-off. The central midfielder allayed those fears in the lead up to the Scotland camp with his sub appearance getting important minutes into his legs, four days after a busy cameo against St Mirren.

The problem suffered in the horror Champions League defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is not one you would usually associate with football but that is what happened:

“I actually got a bit of whiplash from the challenge from Konate, he hit my calf as well so it was a bit of a double whammy.”

“I got it checked and everything was fine but there was just no point in rushing things. I’m fully fit now and I feel good. It was good to get some minutes for Scotland too.”

Build

It will be pivotal for Jack to gain momentum over the coming weeks, ahead of Rangers full return to training then the re-start of competitive business against Hibs on 15th December.

As ever, unfortunately, the Aberdonian has to content with fitness and injury issues, preventing a sustained run in the Rangers team. This matter will come into focus as the season moves on with the 30-year old out of contract at the end of the season. He could yet be offered an extension, even if he will possibly be considered a squad option next term but there is a lot to happen between now and the end of the current campaign at Ibrox.

His commitment and application can’t be faulted as evidenced with his desire to show up for Scotland, as reported by Football Scotland:

“I spoke to the manager and he asked if I’d been training with my club and if I was fit. I was and I wanted to come away and get some minutes.”

“For me, it’s just about trying to get into a rhythm, playing consistently and playing well. If you do that then everything else falls into place.”

Rangers are better off with a fit and firing Ryan Jack but unfortunately that isn’t always possible.
