Messi is out of contract this summer and could, realistically, be an option for Rangers…well, “Mini Messi” anyway.

When Ryan Gauld burst onto the scene for Dundee United he was hailed, ridiculously, as Scotland’s answer to – probably – the greatest footballer of all time, there’s nothing like firing undue pressure onto the shoulders of a 17-year old, is there?

With a variety of options, and the world at his feet he took the bravest of decisions, one that not many in his position would take, and left for warmer shores in the shape of Sporting Lisbon with a buy-out clause of €60million part of his deal, there may have been a couple of false dawns in between but he now finds himself as one of Farense’s most important players, their captain and playmaker.

He is also out of contract in the summer – with an option of another year – however, a release clause of €4million means that he is far from unattainable.

Would you take Gauld?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Rangers are said to be eyeing up Dolev Haziza of Maccabi Haifa a player capable of playing either as an attacking midfielder or in support of a forward, similar to the way in which Gauld operates, now, if I step into Ross Wilson’s shoes for a second, I know which of the two players is lower risk – the one that has played in Scotland before and potentially doesn’t need a transfer fee – he would also help with our “home grown” ratio.

Gauld is now 25 and is on the brink of an international call up, a team that struggles for goals should really find a space for a player with a goal or an assist every two games in Portugal’s top flight, and with talented Scottish players at a premium, going after one of the best is a no brainer.
