Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has again been linked with a move to Southampton this summer, with The Mirror reporting this evening that the English Premier League side remain interested in his services.

It was The Daily Mail who first reported Southampton’s interest back on 10th April, but it’s clear more than a week down the line that these rumours won’t be going anywhere.

The Mirror’s Chief Football Writer John Cross reports that Southampton are looking into a £3m deal for the player.

There’s a personal connection too, with Saints’ Director of Football Ross Wilson having previously worked with the midfielder when they were both at Falkirk.

It’s said he is spearheading the move for the Canadian international as the club look to back Ralph Hasenhuttl in the transfer market.

Arfield is well thought of by Rangers supporters after 42 appearances for Steven Gerrard this season, contributing 11 goals and assisting another seven.

Losing him would be a real blow to the first-team squad, unless Gerrard and Mark Allen are cooking up a significant upgrade.

Will the lure of the English Premier League prove too much?
