Rangers have been linked with a loan move for Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons in the final few days of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to The Mirror, who report that the Gers are battling with Hull City and AEK Athens for his signature.

Aarons spent last season on loan at Serie A side Hellas Verona but on his return to St James’ Park has not managed to push himself ahead of players like Kenedy, Matt Ritchie, Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu on the left flank.

As a result, Rafa Benitez is ready to sanction another temporary departure according to the paper.

Whether this deal is scuppered by the imminent arrival of Albanian international Eros Grezda remains to be seen, but given it is a proposed loan move, it could be an arrival in addition to the Osijek man.

Rangers are in need of reinforcement on the flanks after a serious injury to Jamie Murphy and another option was arguably needed in the wide areas before the former Brighton man was ruled out for the season.

The signature of 22-year-old Aarons would at least provide depth and on a temporary basis there is little risk in bringing him to Glasgow.

Is there room for one more player in an exceptionally busy transfer window?
