Rangers have been handed a massive boost for the upcoming fixtures – including the highly anticipated Old Firm derby – with the news that Kemar Roofe hasn’t been called up by Jamaica for the next international break, as reported by The Daily Record.

The striker would have missed games against Livingston, Ross County and Celtic but will now be available which will be music to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s ears given that Alfredo

Morelos has been called up by Colombia – the double edged sword of El Bufalo’s return to form under the Dutchman.

Roofe has only just returned to full training and his outing against Stirling Albion was his first appearance since a match winning cameo against Hibs in early December having been injured during the November internationals.

According to The Record, it was Roofe who pre-empted the decision by picking up the phone to Jamaica manager Paul Hall, who said:

“Kemar would have been one of the first names on my list. However, Kemar had indicated that he needs to to fully recover from his last injury. Hence his absence from the squad.”

With a goal every 108 minutes in the Scottish Premiership the 29-year old could be our most prolific goal-scorer, however, he has played just 13 times in the league, getting him on the pitch and keeping him there is key to us retaining the title.

Cedric Itten has returned to add depth to the squad and looked eager to impress against Stirling, he took his goal well and could easily have had another couple if the break of the ball had gone in his favour – I’m a big fan of the Switzerland international but I’m a lot more comfortable knowing that a player of Roofe’s calibre will be available over the next few weeks.

A front three of Fashion Sakala, Kemar Roofe and Ryan Kent has a lot to get excited about; pace, goals, creativity and clever movement, here’s hoping they can fire us a step closer to the title over the next few weeks.
