Roma’s Stadio Olimpico party went to plan last night with their Europa Conference League success being shared by around 50,000 of their fans at a home screening.

Look at what we could have had.

With Jose Mourinho’s side getting the job done against Feyenoord in Tirana, Albania, the scenes back in Rome were very impressive.

It further underlines what Rangers supporters missed out on, following the plans carried out in Frankfurt last week as our own supporters were left to their own arrangements in Glasgow and elsewhere in Scotland.

Rangers stated that staff requirements in Seville meant that a screening could not take place at Ibrox whilst there was only silence from elsewhere in Glasgow regarding any possible event for the showpiece game.

This Saturday, more than 10,000 Liverpool supporters will congregate at the M&S Bank Arena in the city to cheer on their heroes in the Champions League Final against Real Madrid in Paris with the event being organised in conjuction with LFC. A great example of what is possible with co-operation.

Back in 2018 against the same opponent, Anfield hosted a screening but due to three concerts over the next couple of weeks, the stadium is not being utilised on this occasion. A further fan zone, but no screening, has already been confirmed for the afternoon in the French capital.

As for Rangers and Glasgow, we can only hope and agitate for better and further provisions for supporters around games and large events. The absence of any planned gathering for the Europa League Final still does not sit well but outside of Ibrox, the club is limited in terms of what can be done.
