Derek McInnes is having none of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s comments on Aberdeen, after the Ibrox boss suggested that the Dons try harder against the Gers than other teams.
Gerrard made the comments in the build-up to tomorrow’s match against McInnes’ side at Ibrox, needing a win to ensure Celtic don’t win another league title.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Liverpool legend said: “Aberdeen play different against Rangers. That’s what I’ve noticed. They certainly raise their game. It seems as if Rangers is their biggest game of the season. Do they try harder against Rangers? That’s the way it looks on the eye. We watched them last week against Celtic and they never laid a finger on Celtic in the semi-final. They obviously come to play against Rangers and bring their A game.”
They are comments that most Rangers supporters would probably agree with, but seem to have provoked some controversy, and McInnes has taken issue with what Gerrard has said.
In response, the Pittodrie boss told The Scottish Sun: “We raise our game every game. They shouldn’t flatter themselves. We don’t always get the results, our home form could have been better this season, especially the second half, but our away form has been second to none. We have had six years of solid work and we have raised our game time and again against every opponent. Naturally it is a big game against Rangers, our players will enjoy it.”
The scene is set then for a blockbuster battle at Ibrox tomorrow, with Rangers looking to end their season against the Dons on a high after disappointing results throughout the 2018/19 season.
Gerrard’s side have managed only a single victory in six matches between the two sides this term, with Aberdeen winning both games in Govan.
