Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Ridvan Yilmaz is not set for a return to Besiktas and his native Turkey.

It was picked up by the Scottish Daily Express after a Turkish outlet ran with the report that a deal had been struck for the left sided player to go back to his old club for next season:

“It’s being reported in Turkey that the 21-year-old will head back to Istanbul on a season-long loan this summer with Besiktas paying all of his salary as he will not be guaranteed regular football at Ibrox.”

“Turkish outlet Fanatik say that the deal has already been agreed for a ‘rental’ for next season with the Istanbul club on course to qualify for the UEFA Conference League.”

However, David Edgar of Heart and Hand podcast with good links to the inside of the club has refuted the claim.

Compete

Unless there were serious personal or off-field issues with Ridvan, there is no way that Rangers would sanction such a move.

We’ve not yet been able to see anywhere near the best of the Turkish international, in fact he hasn’t been able to put a run of games together due to injury and the initial situation at the club on the pitch, when he arrived.

A hectic period of Champions League football in a struggling team wouldn’t have been of much use for a young player and person adjusting to life in a new country and culture for the first time. Then following his hamstring injury picked up against Aberdeen in October, he has been unavailable for Michael Beale until now.

His preparation has been stepped up in the last week taking him to the verge of starting against Motherwell on Saturday.

Going forward, he needs to make the spot his own. Borna Barisic’s future will be up for debate come the Summer and the investment on Ridvan has to come good. At the very least, he needs to be vying to make the position his own, regardless of who he is up against.
