Image for Respect, sadness and pride – Rangers training ground image today speaks a thousand words

Many words will be said about Walter Smith, plenty more tributes will follow but sometimes a simple picture is all that is required.

As a mark of respect and a rightful gesture, the entire Rangers squad, management team and support staff came together at Auchenhowie today, for a minute’s silence in memory of Walter Smith.

Just look at this powerful image.

As a further mark of respect, the post-match press conference ahead of the Aberdeen game was postponed.

Steven Gerrard, as the current leader, assumes the responsibility to guide his players through a difficult period, whilst also balancing the demands on the pitch. Further to that, he along with others at the club, need to impress on the present crop of players, just how much Walter Smith means to Rangers FC and the extent of his impact.

Of course, within the dressing room today there is is Allan McGregor and Steven Davis – two stalwarts of Walter’s second spell at the club.

Their own knowledge, experience and leadership will be invaluable over the coming days and weeks, in what will be a testing time for all at the club.

Steven Gerrard was in contact with Walter Smith up until very recently and that counsel as well as the bond will be held by the current Rangers boss as he aims to continue to write his own Ibrox chapter.

He will likely give a brief insight on that contact in due course, but for now it is all about respect for the great man.
