Rangers produced a superb fightback to earn a credible 1-1 draw in Germany last night.

Stuttgart placed the Gers under relentless pressure in the early going and after an early save from a Cacau shot, McGregor eventually conceded as Russian striker Pavel Progrebniak placed a fine shot past him to give the hosts the lead.

The performance of the Gers improved towards half time but overall, we were mauled by the impressive Germans. Thankfully, that all changed – and how – in the second half.

Led by some fine play by Jerome Rothen and Steven Davis amongst others, Rangers threatened regularly and Sasa Papac really should’ve done better with his diving header early in the second half. Kenny Miller also went on a fine run soon after and appeared to have been legitimately fouled before the Germans cleared the danger.

The breakthrough finally came thanks to a trademark lung-bursting run from Madjid Bougherra. After a cool interchange between the Algerian and Jerome Rothen, Bougherra then robbed the Frenchman of possession on the edge of the box before delivering a fine half-volley passed Jens Lehmann to equalise for the Gers.

Rangers finished by far the better side, and incredibly, nearly snatched a win only for Steve Davis’ fine effort to smack the base of the post from 20 yards.

A horrific start, but all things considered, a massive point and an impressive away performance in the second half.
