It has been reported that Rangers may look to renegotiate with Genk over the terms for the permanent signing of Ianis Hagi.

The Romanian international has impressed in a largely underperforming team but Football Insider has claimed that the current economic uncertainty may cause the Ibrox side to look to renegotiate the deal.

Rangers have an exclusive option to buy Hagi and at around £4.5million, it represents a good piece of business by Ross Wilson, yes, there may be a short-term impact felt by the coronavirus pandemic but at 21-years old, he is worth the investment over a longer period.

The report also fails to take into account the alleged interest in the forward since he arrived at Ibrox with Lazio, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City all monitoring his situation, Genk would be unlikely to accept a reduced deal with so many big hitters sniffing about.

Fortunately for Rangers, Hagi is content at the club and feels that his development would be best served by staying in Glasgow where fans will be hoping for more performances like the one against Braga where he almost single handedly dragged his team-mates through to the last 16 of the Europa League.

His agent was recently reported as confirming the player’s desire to sign for Rangers by saying:

“Ianis is on a good plan at Rangers,

‘He has many other qualities and is actually more graceful than his father ever was. He runs like a gazelle compared to him! I think he is improving all the time at Rangers.

‘He will continue to get better if he signs for them I think.

I think Rangers will sign him because he is a player who has that little extra piece of creativity and skill”.

Gers fans will be hoping that Hagi is a man of his word so that they can see a repeat of his match winning exploits that he so expertly displayed prior to the league being shut down.
