Yes you have read that right… St Johnstone 4 Rangers 1. I have not got the four and the one the wrong way round, St Johnstone really did beat SPL champions by FOUR goals to one.

I am in shock. How did this happen? It is almost as bad as the St Mirren 4 Celtic 0 scoreline from last midweek, although in the grand scheme of things it isn’t such a big deal. Walter Smith hasn’t went from one disaster to another all season, unlike Tony Mowbray last week.

It doesn’t take away from the fact though that this was a shocking result and is simply not good enough. Maybe it was the kick up the backside the players needed? But how can you win 4-1 at Tynecastle, and then a few days later lose 4-1 to St Johnstone?

Fair play to them though, Derek McInnes is proving what a talented young manager he is. He has unfashionable St Johnstone just two points away from a top six place, two games before the split. He also led his team to a 5-1 victory over Hibernian last month. If he keeps this up he has a bright future ahead of him.

On to the game then, and I’m not going to go into too much detail because I’m sure you don’t want to relive it. On loan Celtic striker Cillian Sheridan scored a stunning goal which he curled round McGregor, leaving him no chance. The second was a freak deflected goal, Papac pulled one back for Rangers before St Johnstone shocked Rangers by getting another two thanks to Craig and Davidson.

It was a setback for Rangers who hoped to close in on the title, but only a minor setback. There are still ten points between us and Celtic, plus Rangers have a home game in hand against Aberdeen. Celtic have a tough game away to Hibernian at the weekend.
