Report: Rangers winger could be set for move as game time becomes limited

|

According to a report in The Daily Record, Rangers could be set to recall winger Jake Hastie from his loan spell at Rotherham United.

The story has begun to circulate following comments from The Millers gaffer, Paul Warne, that he fears the Gers could ask for Hastie to be returned to his parent club if he continues to see limited game time in the coming weeks.

Warne said of his current loan players:

“They’ve all added something at different times to our team”.

“It wouldn’t surprise me that if Dan (Barlaser), Jake or Carlton (Morris) don’t play enough games in December their parent clubs would want to move them. I understand that”.

Ironically, Hastie started Rotherham’s most recent fixture against Southend United where his corner was fired into his own net by none other than former Rangers centre-half, Rob Kiernan.

The summer signing from Motherwell, with the Light Blues only having to pay a development fee, started his loan spell on fire with three goals in his first three games and started the first eight games, however, he has struggled for a regular place in the first XI recently and Rangers loan manager, Billy Kirkwood, may feel that he isn’t getting the best development in League 1.

At 21-years-old, Hastie remains relatively inexperienced and only rose to prominence in the second half of last season when he scored 6 goals in 12 appearances for Motherwell, the youngster needs regular games to continue his development and a spell in the Scottish Premiership could be a decent option, as long as he plays more often than fellow loanee Glenn Middleton at Hibernian.

Rangers need only look across the city at James Forrest to realise that patience is needed, and particularly with young, creative players, Hastie has all the physical attributes, he just needs fine tuning. If Steven Gerrard and his coaching team can have the same effect on Hastie as they’ve had on Ryan Jack and Borna Barisic, there is a decent player underneath the obvious raw talent waiting to be unleashed.
