Former Rangers full-back Alan Hutton has claimed that Alfredo Morelos will be raging at passing up the chance to score against Aberdeen as he saw his side drop two vital points in the title race to fall two points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton claims the prolific striker is a victim of his own high standards after drawing a blank at Pittodrie.

Hutton said:

“Sometimes you get strikers who need chances to get one – he’s not that guy. Obviously, I’ve known a lot of strikers in my time, he’ll be raging about that but sometimes you have days like that, things don’t fall the way you want them to, you start snatching at chances”.

“His record speaks for itself. You’re going to go through a game or two or a little run where you don’t score and people think it’s a nightmare. It’s because of the high standards that he’s set for himself, he literally scores all the time”.

“I’m sure he’ll be disappointed but there’s plenty more time for him to score goals”.

Morelos didn’t have too many chances during the match with a couple of long range efforts keeping Joe Lewis honest, he did, however, butcher one opportunity when he was clean through only to lose control of the ball and the chance was gone.

His biggest impact was his rebounded shot which fell to Ryan Jack for Rangers second and then later in the second-half when he was fouled by Lewis Ferguson inside the box only for referee, John Beaton, to award a free-kick outside instead.

Morelos cut a frustrated figure as he was repeatedly fouled, either without punishment or without the referee booking Aberdeen players despite the “robust” nature of some of the tackles.

With 24 goals in 27 games, Morelos will be looking to get back on track and will have no better an opportunity to break his Old Firm scoring duck than in the Betfred League Cup final on Sunday where he has a chance to finally rid himself of the one question still hanging over his head.
