Rangers have been linked with a move for the £9million rated Trabzonspor forward Caleb Ekuban according to a report on the GhanaWeb.com site in his homeland.

The 25-year-old was born in Verona, Italy but also has Ghanian citizenship and is a full international with two goals in four appearances for his country having made his debut in March 2019.

Observant fans of the English Championship may recognise the name as Ekuban was at Leeds United from 2017 until signing permanently for the Turkish Super Lig side at the beginning of this season.

Although the report details that the striker – who can play centrally or on the right of the attack – is valued at £9m, Transfermarkt.com has him at £3.6m which seems to be more realistic given that he was only bought for around £2m just a matter of months ago.

He has 16 goals and nine assists over 61 appearances in his two seasons at Trabzonspor, having been on loan last season, he previously managed just two goals and one assist in 21 games for Leeds, however, with eight goals and six assists in his 25 games this season he is producing the figures that persuaded the Yorkshire club to originally take the gamble on him.

Does the potential signing of Ekuban sound exciting?

Depending on the fee, Ekuban could represent a good move for the Ibrox club with it now looking like Alfredo Morelos has played his last game for Rangers, Florian Kamberi not having enough time to truly impress with the season being aborted and Jermain Defoe at the stage of his career where he can’t be relied upon to be first choice striker due to the physical demands of having to play over 50 games a season.

With the Scottish Premiership now in limbo, the void will be filled with rumour, speculation and gossip as clubs count down the days until players’ contracts run out and the transfer window re-opens – all without the season even being finished – a truly unprecedented time for football fans all over the world.
