Report: Rangers in for top scoring English teenager as transfer speculation mounts

|

According to a report in The Scottish Sun, Chelsea have recalled starlet Conor Gallagher from his Charlton loan spell as Rangers continue to be credited with an interest in the youngster.

Gallagher is the highest scoring teenager in English football with 6 goals in 26 appearances in the league so far for the Addicks in the Championship but it looks as though his time with Lee Bowyer’s club has come to an end.

Charlton director of football, Steven Gallen said of Gallagher’s loan spell so far with rumours of it being cut short:

”First thing to say is what a good player. We’re so pleased with how well he has done. Chelsea have been superb in lending him to us”.

”It’s a season-long loan and we’ve had different people come in from Chelsea over the past few months and they are very, very pleased with their progress”.

With Rangers linked to Charlton striker Lyle Taylor and Gallagher also potentially heading north, it would rub salt into the wounds of a manager who famously said that Joe Aribo was making a mistake in signing for the Glasgow giants, a first international cap and goal against Brazil amongst other achievements would suggest otherwise.

The Ibrox club appear to be more settled in attacking areas in recent weeks and Steven Gerrard is on record as saying that there will likely be just one potential incoming transfer in this window so a move for Gallagher would appear to be a more distant rumour with his parent club likely to be looking to get him game time at a higher level due to his success in the Championship.

Should Rangers send Sheyi Ojo back to go for Conor Gallagher?

No

The transfer would make more sense if Sheyi Ojo was to return to his parent club, Liverpool, as has been rumoured (on social media it has to be said) and Gallagher would come in as a direct replacement, whether or not Gerrard would want to throw a teenager into the deep end of an Old Firm title race remains to be seen.
