So with the first round of games in the third division complete, Rangers were once again up against Peterhead whom they started their campaign against way back in August with a 2-2 draw. This time the teams met at Ibrox.
Rangers had just had a week of cup games, with mixed fortunes. Knocked out of the league cup at the quarter-final stage by Inverness Caledonian Thistle with a horrible 3-0 home defeat, then a superb 7-0 victory over Alloa Athletic in the third round of the Scottish Cup.
It was a tight affair in the first half with Peterhead missing a glorious early chance. Lee McCulloch, scoring for fun this season gave Rangers a 1-0 lead though just before half-time. In a game of few chances, Rangers sealed victory with a Lee Wallace goal in the 66th minute.
One observation, Peterhead seemed to be wearing Rangers away strip from last season. Umbro obviously giving them Rangers’ hand me downs there.
