Rangers came up against SPL opposition for the first time since their relegation to the third division, and produced their best performance of the season so far with a fine 2-0 victory which was well deserved.

Rangers came out of the blocks fast against the SPL leaders and really took it to Motherwell. They couldn’t make their early pressure pay off though and the rest of the half was even. There was one downside in the first half though after Sandaza went off with what turned out to be a broken cheekbone.

Skipper, and ex Motherwell player Lee McCulloch gave Rangers the lead with a superb header from a corner early in the second half. This just seemed to spur Rangers on even more and it wasn’t long before the lead was doubled, the time another big game player Dean Shiels netting.

These two goals were enough to see off the SPL leaders and to make it a real good feeling around Ibrox. Rangers are now in the quarter-finals and WILL face another SPL side. Could an old firm clash be on the cards? All will the two old firm balks be heated when the draw takes place on Thursday?
