Montrose took a shock lead in this six goal thriller after Lloyd Young scored a volley from six yards in the 16th minute. Their lead lasted only seven minutes though when they have away a penalty which was converted by captain Lee McCulloch.

It stayed 1-1 at half-time but Rangers took the lead in the 67th minute with Kevin Kyle sliding the ball into the net after being set up by Shiels. Shiels then got a goal of his own two minutes later with a close range effort.

Montrose still had some fight in them though and made the scoreline 2-3 in the 76th minute with a looping shot from Gray. Rangers though made the game safe when they got a fourth deep into injury time. Young Robbie Crawford fired the ball into the net from 16 yards out to make the final score Montrose 2 Rangers 4.
