Report – Ibrox exit on the cards for Rangers midfielder as transfer interest hots up

|

Rangers midfielder, Greg Docherty, looks to be the next player heading out of Ibrox with Sunderland of League 1 and Charlton and Millwall of the Championship said to be the clubs leading the chase according to The Scottish Sun.

Docherty has been restricted to just five appearances this season but has still managed to create three assists albeit against St Joseph’s of Gibraltar in a Europa League qualifying round, after an outstanding season with Shrewsbury Town last season – where he was awarded the club’s player of the year –  he had been expected to play a bigger role this term.

Steven Gerrard has been on record, as recently as December, in praising Docherty’s attitude and professionalism and can’t fault the 23-year-old‘s performances in training and that his lack of game time is primarily down to the standards and resilience being shown by both Ryan Jack and Steven Davis.

Rangers midfield has been an area of particular strength and Docherty is doing the right thing in going out on loan to get games, across the city both Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor had to be patient to make any real impression on the first-team at Celtic with the Parkhead side now reaping the benefits.

Steven Davis has just turned 35-years-old and Glen Kamara has recently been attracting attention from the Premier League, with a successful Euro 2020 tournament, Rangers may find it hard to fend off suitors for the Finnish international, Docherty could yet find himself featuring more often in match-day squads.

The midfielder will look to repeat the success of his loan spell at Shrewsbury and demonstrate once again that he has the ability to be a goalscoring, creative, box-to-box midfielder, much in the mould of his manager and man ultimately in control of his destiny.
