Rangers had their first home game of the season on Tuesday 7th August 2012 as they welcomed second division East Fife to Ibrox for a Scottish League Cup first round tie. An impressive 38,160 fans turned up to show their support. The kick-off was delayed 20 minutes to allow fans into the stadium.

Ally McCoist gave a debut to new signing Dean Shiels. Ian Black made his home debut for his new club. The team lined-up with Alexander in goal. Goian, Bocanegra, Broadfoot and Wallace in defence. McCulloch, Black, MacLeod and McKay in midfield with Shiels and Little up front. New signings Sandaza and Kyle were on the bench.

McCulloch opened the scoring in fifteen minutes after being set up by new signing Dean Shiels. Shiels then got one himself after thirty-four minutes. Lee Wallace made it three-nil just two minutes into the second half, and the scoring was rounded off in the sixty-second minute by Lee McCulloch who got his second goal of the game.
