Rangers manager Ally McCoist needed a reaction from his players after the shock exit from the League Cup at the hands of Falkirk, and he got just that. Rangers soundly beat SPL new boys Dunfermline 4-0.

Rangers were in control of the game right from the start and had scored two goals in the first seventeen minutes. They then added another two in the second half to make it a rout against the Pars.

Ally McOoist made four changes to the side that lost to Falkirk. He basically brought back in the four players he rested in midweek for the four players who had replace them, so it was the same team who had beaten Celtic the week before.

American defender Carlos Bocanegra gave Rangers the lead in the ninth minute when he got a free header inside the box from a Steven Davis corner. It was a good day for the Americans in the team with Maurice Edu grabbing the second goal of the day with a long range effort which just squeezed passed Dunfermline goalkeeper Paul Gallagher.

In form Steven Naismith extended Rangers’ lead to three in the 51st minute. Steven Davis set up Naismith when he threaded the ball through to him, and Naismith lifted it over Gallagher and into the net.

It was Naismith again who grabbed Rangers’ fourth and final goal of the day. Davis was once again involved when he passed to Jelavic who in turn set up Naismith who duly converted.

The result continues Rangers’ excellent away record this season. That’s five games played away with five wins, twelve goals and none conceded. While Rangers have struggled in cup competitions, they have been excellent in the league with the only minor blip on the opening game of the season when we drew 1-1 with Hearts.

Rangers are still four points clear at the top ahead of closest challengers, our old rivals Celtic who we of course beat 4-2 last week. Going out of the cup competitions is not nice but the league is our bread and butter and the Champions are rising to the challenge once again.
