Rangers’ capture of defender Borna Barisic has taken their net transfer spend this summer over a whopping £8m, according to The Scotsman.

The paper say that the Ibrox side have forked out £2m for the Croatian international, following the £3m acquisition of Connor Goldson, a £2m outlay for Nikola Katic and a £1m fee to secure the permanent signing of winger Jamie Murphy.

That dwarfs Celtic’s net spend despite the Hoops spending a club record fee on Odsonne Edouard.

The Scotsman reckon that they’ve spent just £1m after recouping much of Edouard’s £9m fee from the sale of Stuart Armstrong and Erik Sviatchenko.

Clearly it’s a significant investment for the club and demonstrates that the board are backing new manager Steven Gerrard big time, believing he’s the man to finally bring success back to Ibrox.

So far the squad has looked up to the task with European results going our way and a 10-man team producing a good performance against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

With significant challenges ahead in three competitions over the next few weeks in the form of Maribor, Kilmarnock and Celtic, it’s an exciting time to be a Rangers supporter.
