The Evening Times have detailed five players they think are certain to leave Ibrox this summer, as Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks to stamp further authority on the first-team squad ahead of next season.

The paper reckon that Joe Dodoo, Jak Alnwick, Jason Holt, Lee Hodson and Eduardo Herrera will all be surplus to requirements after their current loan deals finish at the end of the season.

Dodoo has made 25 appearances for Blackpool, scoring six goals, while Alnwick has been a regular in goal for Scunthorpe United but has too much competition to make a first-team impact at Ibrox.

Jason Holt recently suffered an injury while on loan at Fleetwood Town and the report states that Rangers could look to pay the player off this summer rather than have him see out the remainder of his contract, which expires in 2020, just like Alnwick and Dodoo.

Lee Hodson’s contract meanwhile expires at the end of the season after spending 2018/19 out on loan at Scottish Premiership side St Mirren.

That leaves Eduardo Herrera, who The Times reckon has no chance of featuring in Steven Gerrard’s team anytime soon when he returns from a loan at Mexican side Necaxa.

With his expensive contract expiring next year, the paper say his exit will be costly whether it comes with an arrangement this summer or whether we have to pay his wages until his deal is up.

Gerrard appears to be clearing the decks for the next phase of his Rangers project and getting as many of these names off the wage bill can only be a positive.
