Report details exactly what Rangers are paying much discussed Gerrard signing

|

Rangers are paying £35,000-a-week towards Jermain Defoe’s salary while he is on loan at the club, according to The Sunday Post.

There’s been a lot of chatter this weekend about exactly what percentage the Gers are paying of the Bournemouth forward’s deal at the English Premier League club.

According to this latest report it is close to 40% of his £90,000-a-week contract with the Cherries.

That’s a far more reasonable suggestion than some figures which were thought to be as much as £65,000-a-week.

It still makes him one of, if not the biggest earner at Ibrox and is an outlay of more than £500,000 between now and the end of the season. It’s certainly a big investment in a player we will see no financial return on.

However, the thought will be he has the firepower that allows us to challenge for the two remaining domestic trophies this season. If he does that he will be more than worth the outlay.

Hopefully the former England international hits the ground running and shows everyone in his early appearances exactly why Steven Gerrard has brought him to the club.
