Rangers cruised to an emphatic win over second division high flyers Alloa Athletic. 7-0 was the scoreline against Paul Hartley’s men in this Scottish Cup third round clash.

The scoring got off to an early start with former Hibernian and Kilmarnock player netting as early as the second minute with a close range effort which settled the nerves after a horrible defeat to Inverness in the League Cup midweek. Shiels got the first of three doubles after 21 minutes when he was set up by Lee McCulloch and did well to slide the ball under the goalkeeper.

And talking about McCulloch, Jig was the next to get a double, he first of which came in the 33rd minute after he took advantage of a defensive cock up and converted from the edge of the box. The second of his brace was an easy tap-in in the 72nd minute after being set up by young substitute Robbie Crawford.

Robbie Crawford got his reward for that assist a minute later when he scored through a ruck of players from inside the box. Then the third double of their afternoon went to Barrie McKay who got his sixth and seventh goals for Rangers. His first, and Rangers sixth of the afternoon was the best of the day, he curled it in from outside the box. He then completed his double in the 89th minute to round off the scoring.
