Rangers have been boosted ahead of Villarreal’s trip to Ibrox on Thursday, with Spanish midfielder Manu Trigueros ruled out of the trip according to The Daily Record.

The paper say the £18m-rated star (Transfermarkt) limped out of yesterday’s win at home to Real Betis and is now set to miss the huge UEFA Europa League clash.

Trigueros is a firm fixture in the Villarreal first-team, making 15 appearances this season. With close to 300 appearances in total for the club since 2012, it’s clear he’ll be a big miss for the fixture.

The Spaniards won for the first time in six matches on Sunday, although haven’t won away from home since September, making the upcoming fixture a winnable one for Steven Gerrard’s side.

A win would see us move up into second at least ahead of the final matchday, where we’ll face Rapid Vienna. Going into that one with qualification for knockout stages in our own hands would be massive and three points on Thursday delivers that scenario.

It won’t be easy of course but beating a La Liga side at Ibrox has rarely looked so possible, with our visitors hovering just above the relegation zone.

Can we capitalise on their crisis?
