Giovanni van Bronckhorst refused to be drawn on late transfer activity in his post-match briefing following the 3-1 League Cup victory over Queen of the South.

A very experimental Rangers team laboured at times against the Doonhamers, but the contest was never in trouble from the hosts perspective.

The manager declared himself satisfied with the displays of the youngsters who were given a chance to shine tonight but as much as there was interest on the game just past, the impending close of the transfer window was also in focus.

When asked if any new faces were expected, Gio responded:

“I’m relaxed. There’s still a couple of days. You never know what will happen in those days. You have to be prepared. At the moment I think this is the squad we’re going to have.”

“As I’ve said before, we created a squad to be competitive and to qualify for the Champions League, which we did. I’m quite relaxed.”

Cool

We have seen this before with the Dutchman, he isn’t one to talk up transfers or other sensitive matters until they are more or less a formality.

Back in January, there was also a guarded build up to deadline day, before the spectacular, high profile arrival of Aaron Ramsey. It won’t be lost on the manager that his team are still lacking a ruthless element in attack, particularly at right wing. Neither Scott Wright or Rabbi Matondo are ready or capable to be relied upon when it matters.

On the other side, Ryan Kent needs helped out and that won’t be Fashion Sakala. The Zambian is many things and does carry a goal threat, but Rangers need better.

None of this is anything new, that we did not know this time last week but Champions League qualification changes things. Selling clubs know Rangers have money to spend but more quality is essential if the league title is to be regained, not a luxury that can be done without.
